Operation Malawi Orphans - Help Change a Childs Life

Operation Malawi Orphans

A Ministry of The Lighthouse Santa Rosa

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans
and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
James 1:27 NIV

Background:  Early in 2007, I was working at my computer when God dropped the word Malawi in my mind. I said, "What's that?" I didn't know what that word meant. Several days later I received a newsletter from a ministry talking about their missions work in the nation of Malawi.

The Call:  Malawi is a very poor country with an estimated 300,000 - 500,000 orphans. God wants us to do something about this. As I have prayed about what God wants me to do, He has responded, "I want you to feed the orphans of Malawi." Naturally, I am overwhelmed at the task God has set before me. I know He is able and I am willing to do my part.

The Vision:  I traveled to Malawi in July 2008 with a group called Water Wells for Africa. I made a number of contacts in the city of Blantyre in southern Malawi. God opened the door to select the villages where to begin this project. The physical location for the construction will be in a rural location northeast of Blantyre. The overseer for the orphan home project was selected. Any funds raised will be used to build the houses, feed, clothe and educate the children, and pay for administrative necessities.

Progress:  To date, we have secured a 50 year lease on some land in the Mizanje villages and the legal paperwork has been completed for the establishment of the Asamala (God Cares) Orphanage. A list of needed supplies and expenses has been established and a board of men from the leadership of the villages has been chosen to oversee the work. Pastor Davis Galero of the Blantyre Foursquare Church is also helping to oversee the project. The Malawian government has dug 2 irrigation wells. We have purchased one irrigation pump, seeds and fertilizer. The crops are already growing! $400 of food has been distributed to the children. We also hope to work with Habitat for Humanity to build homes.
